1) Check with Your Designer — Not many people are more knowledgeable about a piece of jewelry than its designer. Find out which methods the designers of your jewelry suggest for cleaning.

2) Last On, First Off — Jewelry should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. This way, you will avoid perfumes, hairsprays, or lotions getting on and damaging jewelry. Take jewelry off when exercising or doing anything very physical.

3) Prevent Tangled Necklaces — If you store your necklaces or travel with them in a pouch, leave the end hanging out to help prevent tangling. Put necklaces in separate bags or hang them to stop them from tangling or scratching.

When necessary, use a soft toothbrush to clean with mild soapy water for crevasses. And, make sure to clean the back before cleaning the front. We recommend a great home cleaning solution for diamonds and most other jewelry items: 1/2 lemon ammonia, 1/2 water.

5) Polished to Perfection — Use a polishing cloth on shiny silver. Wipe pearls with soft cloth. Wipe down jewelry to remove oils before storing it for the season.

6) Keep a Watch Safe — Make sure the crown is screwed down before cleaning waterproof watches. With watches that are water resistant only put the bracelet in the mild soapy water, so that no moisture gets inside the watch.

7) Storing Your Jewelry — Keep sterling silver in an air tight bag to keep from tarnishing. Don’t store pearls or opals in safety deposit boxes; they need moisture to keep from turning brittle.

8) Enjoy — Probably our most important tip, the whole reason for having jewelry in the first place. Remember to enjoy your jewelry everyday!
