Selected by hand, less than 1% of the world's natural diamonds are eligible to become a De Beers Forevermark diamond. Every step of its journey adheres to strict criteria, calling on master craftsmen and the most experienced of experts to ensure that only the most beautiful diamonds are chosen to be inscribed as De Beers Forevermark.

De Beers Forevermark brings you the most carefully selected diamonds in the world, drawing from over 130 years of diamond expertise. Each one is responsibly sourced, and then meticulously cut, polished and graded before it can be inscribed with proprietary technology that makes it uniquely yours.

De Beers Forevermark is a leader in the industry with innovative technology and employs practices to ensure high quality and authenticity.

A diamond is precious – a natural miracle over a billion years in the making, nearly as old as the Earth itself. Formed from carbon, which crystalized under enormous pressure and high temperature, it was slowly forged into character by the shifts deep beneath the Earth, waiting to be discovered and brought to light.

Sourcing

An ancient mineral, the rough diamond is liberated from carefully selected mines around the world in countries such as South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Canada. De Beers Forevermark diamonds are mined deep below ground, from the ocean and even beneath an Arctic lake. Each mine is required to uphold high business, social and environmental standards.

The same criteria is to be met throughout the journey of the diamond itself to ensure that each De Beers Forevermark diamond that is worn, has benefitted the community where it originated. Our commitment to responsible sourcing is built upon integrity, opportunity for women and environmental stewardship. These are the values that underpin the inscription on every De Beers Forevermark diamond.

Sorting

In its rough form, the diamond is carefully selected by experienced diamond sorters, amongst a sea of color and an expanse of shapes and sizes. Drawing on vast experience, diamond sorters masterfully assess the distinct characteristics of each rough diamond to ascertain those of potential De Beers Forevermark quality. Here the diamond is separated from lesser gems, and continues on its journey to become De Beers Forevermark.

Cutting & Polishing

De Beers Forevermark demands only the very highest in cut criteria. Master craftsmen must devote consummate artistry and precise expertise to producing a diamond of De Beers Forevermark caliber. By combining a legacy of craftsmanship and technological innovation, the diamond is brought to life. De Beers Forevermark demands that each diamond is cut and polished to the highest standard, a masterpiece every time.

Having chosen the rough diamonds, these master craftsmen begin the process of cutting and polishing. Here is where the brilliance, fire and scintillation of a diamond are unleashed. Experience, time and patience are essential. As each and every facet is carefully extracted, even one mistake could reduce the diamond's light and beauty.

Once the diamond has been polished, it is evaluated and graded against a set of standards and can be classified among other diamonds.

Selection & Grading

A polished diamond is then sent to the De Beers Group Institute of Diamonds, where masters in the art of selection scrupulously verify that each diamond meets De Beers Forevermark’s exacting quality criteria. Here, expert graders draw on proprietary, state-of-the-art technologies and years of experience to examine each diamond, going beyond the technical 4Cs criteria to hand-select only the most beautiful to become De Beers Forevermark.

A diamond will go through, at minimum, a seventeen-step process. The diamond will be thoroughly checked and rigorously examined by expert graders for any flaws or imperfections that will impact its beauty. The diamonds are also scanned by industry-leading proprietary machines to check for their authenticity, carat weight and symmetry, and then hand examined once again for color categorization and inclusions, or flaws visible to the naked eye.

De Beers Forevermark inscribed diamonds must be natural, and must have close to perfectly polished tables - this is where the inscription will be placed. Out of all of the diamonds in the world, less than 1% qualify to become De Beers Forevermark diamonds.

A De Beers Forevermark Grading Report, produced by expert Gemologists, comes with diamonds over half a carat, and can be requested for smaller diamonds above 10 points. The report features the unique identification number inscribed on the diamond, a bespoke security hologram, and an accurate blueprint of the Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat of each diamond.

Inscription

Every De Beers Forevermark diamond is given an inscription that represents a three-fold promise: that the diamond is beautiful, rare and responsibly sourced. Invisible to the naked eye, this inscription includes the De Beers Forevermark icon and the diamond's own, unique number. The inscription is 1/20th of a micron deep – 1/5,000th the depth of a human hair – and is placed on the table facet of the diamond, using confidential, proprietary technology developed by De Beers Group.

The De Beers Forevermark inscription has been developed so it does not affect the internal quality of the diamond. Smaller diamonds, those of less than 8 points, cannot accommodate the inscription, and therefore are not inscribed by De Beers Forevermark. The inscription can only be seen with a De Beers Forevermark Viewer, which offers superb magnification and clarity.

All De Beers Forevermark Diamonds can be registered on Forevermark.com to store your unique identification number and diamond details, providing reassurance that your diamond is uniquely yours.
