Colorful Drop Earrings Rock the CMA’s

As is typical at red carpet awards shows, elegant drop earrings were omnipresent at the 46th Annual CMA Awards, a ceremony that honors the top artists in country music and took place Nov. 1 in Nashville, Tenn. Diamonds, of course, were spotted on the red carpet but many of the evening’s stars played with color via their jewelry, choosing gemstones such as rutilated quartz, blue topaz, chrysocolla and pink sapphires. For Golden Gymnasts, Earrings on the Way

Newton, Mass.–On Tuesday, four pairs of diamond, ruby and sapphire earrings left Massachusetts via FedEx. Their destination: London, and the ears of four members of the 2012 gold medal-winning U.S. women’s gymnastics team.

The origin of the earrings was Newton retailer Adamas Fine Jewelry, which was fulfilling a public pledge to Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber.

Adamas originally made the diamond-and-gemstone studs for gymnastics team captain Aly Raisman, a native of nearby Needham, Mass., prior to the London Games. The store promised a pair for each of the other four gymnasts if they brought home the team gold, which they did on July 31, beating out Russia 183.596 to 178.530.

True to their word, the store crafted the additional earrings and shipped them to London, said Veronica Sagherian, who co-owns Adamas with her brother Anto Aboyan. She said the 14-karat white gold earrings feature a 0.70-carat diamond surrounded by a half-carat each of rubies and sapphires.
