Happy Birthday January babies!

January's birthstone, garnet, Latin word meaning 'pomegranate,' is known for being a darker shade of red. Garnets are actually mined in a rainbow of colors. From the fiery orange of Mandarin Garnet or Spessartite to the rich green of Tsavorite Garnet and Russian Demantoid. The most widely recognized color is Pyrope Garnet, but we also can find the stone in a deep red Bohemian Garnet. Then the garnet also comes in shades of pink and purples which we find in the Rhododendron/Rhodolite Garnet. The wide range of colors continues into blue, colorless, black and yellow for garnets.

Legend use to say that the garnet could light up the night to protect from nightmares or keep weary travels safe from harm on long journeys. So the garnet, while being the birthstone for January, is also a wonderful gift due to the stunning variety of colors and the mystical powers it is believed to hold.
