Along with decisions about style and diamond choice, comes the question about selection of the metal. If you choose gold, then you have additional options of white, rose or yellow. We spend time with our brides and grooms sharing our knowledge of the different metal types and assisting them in selecting the perfect metal for them.
Yellow Gold: Gold is one of the most malleable metals which makes it a good option for jewelry without diminish the natural essence. It is typically combined with different alloys for added strength and durability. Pure gold is 24 carat. Most gold engagement and wedding ring mountings are made in 18 carat gold, although 14K and 10K are options as well. The lower the carat weight, the more alloys have been added. Yellow gold is very soft, so often mixed with stronger alloys like copper, zinc and nickel to make it stronger for everyday wear.
White Gold: This color metal is created by adding the alloys palladium, nickel, zinc and/or silver to yellow gold. The gold may be coated with rhodium to give a striking brilliance. White gold compliments colorless or near colorless diamonds.
Rose Gold: Like white gold, rose gold is created by adding alloys to yellow gold. Copper (usually 25%) is added to give gold that rosy color. The more copper is added the deeper the hue. Rose gold is more durable that white or yellow gold because of the copper alloy. The rosy hue is unique and gives as vintage feel, as well as being the most romantic metal. Like yellow and white gold, rose gold is available in 18K, 14K and 10K.
Platinum: Naturally white and extremely durable, platinum is a very desirable bridal ring metal. Although more expensive, it is very resistant to wear and naturally hypoallergenic. With at least 90% pure platinum, this metal is very rare at least 30 times rarer than gold. Platinum provides a beautiful setting for white diamonds or gems of color.
